Note: this process is currently available only for Stripe accounts and Vrbo bookings.
What is the third party 3DS token feature?
As part of the payment flow, the bank of the cardholder may request a 3DS authentication in order to allow the payment. The 3DS authentication request is usually handled by Smily, however there is currently the possibility to have it handled directly on Vrbo and to send a 3DS token from Vrbo to Stripe via Smily. This makes the payment flow easier for the guest.
How to activate this feature?
The feature needs to be activated on 2 sides: Stripe and Smily.
1 - Activating the feature on Stripe
The Stripe feature is currently in beta and cannot be activated in the Stripe interface. In order to activate it, you may contact the Stripe support team and ask the following:
Please enable the feature “Importing 3D Secure results”. This request is in order to send extra payload as a part of payment_method_options[card][three_d_secure]
, and is in regard to the integration with Vrbo.
Note: this feature is not compatible with the Stripe Radar rule "has liability shift". You will need to deactivate that rule if you'd like to use the 3DS token feature.
2 - Activating the feature on Smily
Once you receive confirmation from Stripe that they have activated the feature on their side, you can contact our support team and ask the following:
Please enable the third party 3DS token feature for the Stripe account X.
With X being the exact name chosen for the Stripe account in the payment section of your Smily accounts (Settings > Payments). Please note that if the name is not exact, our team may not be able to identify the account.
Note: this feature is activated per Stripe account, not per rental. You only need to activate it once for the Stripe account, and can then assign that Stripe account to as many rentals as you'd like without any further action.
Once our team confirms that the feature has been activated on Smily, it is then ready to be used for future Vrbo bookings.
