What it is: After your password, Smily asks for a six-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone.
| Who it's for | Every Smily user |
| Required? | No, unless your account admin turns on "require for all users" |
| What you need | Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, or Authy |
| Languages | English and French |
Step 1: Turn it on
Open your Profile → find Two-factor authentication (under time-format settings) → select Enable two-factor authentication.
Step 2: Scan the QR code
Scan with your authenticator app, then enter the six-digit code. Can't scan? Type the key printed below the code instead.
Step 3: Save your backup codes
You'll get 10 single-use backup codes. Use Copy codes or Download immediately — they're shown only once and Smily can't retrieve them again.
Step 4: Your profile afterward
Shows when you enabled it, a button to regenerate backup codes, an off switch (needs password or a code to confirm), and a list of browsers that hold a code.
Step 5: Signing in going forward
Enter your password, then your code (or a backup code). Lost both? Use the Support link on the sign-in screen. Keep me logged in controls how long your session and code last.
For account admins
Settings → General settings has a new Require two-factor authentication for all users toggle. Turning it on forces setup at next sign-in and users can't opt out while it's active.
Good to know
- One code per sign-in session, not once a day
- "Keep me logged in" = 2 weeks; unchecked = ends when browser closes
- Changing your password signs you out everywhere
- If access to one account requires 2FA, it applies to your whole sign-in across all accounts
- 5 wrong codes = signed out, just re-enter your password
- Everyone gets signed out once when this feature rolls out
