To track the performance of your Smily website and measure the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns, you need to add two identifiers in the settings of the Website application in your Smily account:
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) key → to analyze traffic and conversions
Google Tag Manager (GTM) key → to manage your marketing tags
Important: Both keys must be added to ensure complete and reliable tracking of your website.
This guide explains how to obtain your identifiers and configure them on your Smily website.
Step 1: Get Your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) ID
Create Your GA4 Account
Go to analytics.google.com
Sign in with your Google account (or create one)
Click Start measuring or Admin > Create Property
Fill in the required information:
Property name: give your site a name (e.g. “My Rental Website”)
Time zone: select your time zone (e.g. Europe/Paris)
Currency: EUR
Answer the questions about your business

Retrieve Your GA4 Measurement ID
Once your account is created:
In Google Analytics 4, click Admin (gear icon at the bottom left)
In the Property column, click Data streams
Click Add stream > Web
Enter your Smily website URL (e.g. yoursite.com)
Give the stream a name (e.g. “Main Website”)
Click Create stream
Copy the Measurement ID that appears
Your GA4 Measurement ID starts with G- and looks like this:
G-XXXXXXXXXX
Step 2: Get Your Google Tag Manager (GTM) ID
Create Your GTM Account
Go to tagmanager.google.com
Sign in with your Google account (the same one used for GA4)
Click Create account
Fill in the information:
Account name: your company name
Country: select your country
Configure the container:
Container name: your website URL (e.g. yoursite.com)
Target platform: Web
Click Create
Accept the terms of service
Retrieve Your GTM Container ID
After creation, Google Tag Manager will display a window with:
Your Container ID
Two code snippets (you do not need to copy them, Smily handles this)
Copy only the Container ID.
Your GTM ID starts with GTM- and looks like this:
GTM-XXXXXXX
You can close the window—you now have everything you need.
Step 3: Configure GA4 and GTM on Your Smily Website
Now that you have both IDs, it’s time to add them to your Smily website.
Access Your Website Settings
Log in to the Website Application in Smily
If you have multiple websites, select the one you want to configure
In the menu, click Preferences
Add Your IDs
On the Preferences page, you will see two fields:

1. Google Analytics 4 Field
Find the Google Analytics 4 field
Paste your GA4 ID (starting with G-)
Format: G-XXXXXXXXXX
2. Google Tag Manager Field
Find the Google Tag Manager field
Paste your GTM ID (starting with GTM-)
Format: GTM-XXXXXXX
3. Save
Click Save at the top of the page
That’s it! Tracking is now active on your Smily website. Both tools (GA4 and GTM) now work together to track your visitors and conversions.
Step 4: Enable Conversion Tracking (Optional)
To accurately track confirmed bookings as conversions in Google Analytics, you need to enable the redirection of the payment page to your own domain.
Required action: Contact Smily Support to request activation of the payment page redirection. This configuration allows GA4 to track conversions on your own domain.
Once enabled by support, your bookings will automatically be tracked as conversions in Google Analytics 4.
Check That Tracking Is Working
Check GA4
Go back to your Google Analytics 4 account
In the menu, click Reports > Realtime
Open your Smily website in a new browser tab
Browse a few pages of your site
Return to GA4: you should see your visit appear in real time
If you see your visit, GA4 is working correctly! ✅
Check GTM
Install the free Chrome extension Tag Assistant (available in the Chrome Web Store)
orUse Preview mode in GTM:
In your GTM account, click Preview (top right)
Enter your Smily website URL
A window will open showing active tags
If you see the GTM container, GTM is working correctly! ✅
Why Install Both Tools?
GA4 and GTM work together to provide complete tracking:
GA4 collects and analyzes your website data (visitors, page views, conversions)
GTM manages the installation of GA4 and all your other marketing tools (Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, etc.)
Without GTM, you won’t be able to easily add other tracking tools later.
Without GA4, you won’t have any data to analyze.
Both are required for effective tracking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need to install both?
Yes, absolutely. GA4 and GTM complement each other:
GA4 alone is not enough if you want to add other tools (Facebook, Google Ads)
GTM alone does not collect any data
For complete and scalable tracking, you must install both IDs on your Smily website.
How long does it take to see data?
Real-time: immediately (you can test right away)
Full reports: 24 to 48 hours to see complete data in GA4
Is it free?
Yes, Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager are 100% free for standard use.
Is tracking GDPR-compliant?
Yes. Tracking only starts if visitors accept cookies via the consent widget. Make sure the cookie widget is properly installed on your Smily website (this is usually done by default).
