What is the public calendar?
Every Smily account has a public calendar. It's a web page that shows when each of your rentals is booked or available. Many property managers use it to share availability with guests or partners. Some also embed it on their own website as a calendar widget.
The public calendar also provides calendar feeds (iCal, JSON and XML). Other tools and channels can use these feeds to read your availability.
Sharing setting
You can now turn the public calendar off from your settings. A checkbox, "Public calendar enabled", lets you choose whether your rentals' availability is visible to the public.
If you use the public calendar and are happy with it, you don't need to do anything.
Who can change this setting?
Only users with the Owner role on the account.
How to turn the public calendar off
- Go to Settings → Public calendars.
- At the top of the page, find the "Public calendar enabled" checkbox.
- Untick the box.
- Save your changes.
To turn it back on, go back to the same page and tick the box again.
What happens when the public calendar is off?
Once you untick the box, these stop working:
- The link no longer shows your availability.
- Any calendar widget embedded on your website.
- Your iCal, JSON and XML calendar feeds from the public calendar.
Your bookings, rentals and the calendar inside your Smily account are not affected.
Before you turn it off: check your channels and tools
If you send this iCal feed to a channel (or to any other external tool), that sync will stop once the public calendar is off. The channel will no longer get your availability updates, and you could be at risk of double bookings.
Before you untick the box:
- Check whether you've shared your public calendar's iCal link with a channel, a partner or a website.
- If you have, set up another way to sync with that channel, or keep the public calendar on.
- If the calendar is embedded on your website, remove the widget or tell your webmaster, so visitors don't see a broken calendar.
